Nokia is "thinking ahead" through the rear mirror.

An event that has been awaited for more than seven years had finally taken place. Nokia, no, not the Microsoft spinoff but the Finnish company, had announced earlier this week that it is finally introducing an Android device. The device is a tablet named Nokia N1, a throwback to the once iconic N-series.

Is this a ground breaking announcement? If it was 2008, sure. Back then Nokia was still the biggest phone manufacturer in the world in spite of Apple quickly eating its share. However, the Android market today is no longer an experimental playground. It is a very competitive market where Samsung dominates but HTC, Sony, and LG all provide unique customer value with their customized OS and user experience. The Z launcher that Nokia offers is unique and, if executed correctly, would perfectly enwrap the minimalist manner of thinking that Apple had been teaching us. The N1 and the Z launcher most likely won't bring the N95 glory days back. From a copywriting perspective, the tag line "Thinking Ahead" would show us that this is not the goal either. In 2016, the Finnish would be again legally allowed to use its own brand for mobile device with phone capability, the ones that they invented in the first place. Until then, the remaining Nokia fans should enjoy this small appetizer. It may just turn to be a sweet side dish for a great meal in a restaurant that had had taken very long to deliver our order.
